Hi, I’m Ronika.

Ronika Khanna, CPA, CFA  | Author & Founder of Montreal Financial

I believe that running a business should feel empowering, not overwhelming. As the founder of Montreal Financial, I've spent over 20 years bridging the gap between complex accounting and the real decisions Canadian business owners have to make.

Today, my focus is helping owner-managed incorporated Canadians set up properly, pay themselves tax-efficiently, and build financial security as their corporation grows. If you're newly incorporated and finding your footing, or a few years in and ready to optimize, that's exactly who I built this for.

The journey From corporate to founder

After receiving my CPA (CA) designation, I moved to Bermuda, where I worked at PwC and then at ING, gaining experience in international financial services and completing my CFA along the way. After seven years, I decided it was time to move back home to Montreal. I got a job as a Controller for a financial services company, where I worked for another few years. It was a solid, traditional path.

But I had an entrepreneurial streak, so I decided to start my own small business helping other small businesses with their accounting, finance, and taxes. It was a challenging transition: despite my accounting background, I had to learn about the specific needs of small businesses. I did this by teaching myself the concepts and then blogging about them, a process that helped solidify my own learning and reach clients. Over time, I built a base of steady, recurring clients who were eager to understand their numbers.

During Covid, I had time, so I decided to write several books on the topics I was addressing most frequently. In doing so, I realized how much I enjoyed financial education, and how important it was that good financial advice be accessible, clear, and genuinely useful. Since then, I've helped Canadian solopreneurs and small business owners through my newsletter, videos, blog, books, courses, webinars, and direct consultations, so they can feel more confident and in control of their finances.

My current focus is owner-managed incorporated Canadians: the setup decisions, accounting setup (and cleanup), and the tax strategy I'm best positioned to help with. If you're a sole proprietor or self-employed, you'll still find plenty here too, my existing books, courses, and consulting remain available.

It's so great to be able to discuss tax strategies with an accounting professional who is also a business owner. This was the second time we consulted with Ronika.
